Jon Stewart on the Mosqueteers

Maureen Dowd, who usually spends her columns criticizing Obama from the left, had this to say today:
The bookstore gave the president a copy of “Freedom,” a new novel by Jonathan Franzen about a dysfunctional family in America. This is apt, since Obama is the head of the dysfunctional family of America — a rational man running a most irrational nation, a high-minded man in a low-minded age.

The country is having some weird mass nervous breakdown, with the right spreading fear and disinformation that is amplified by the poisonous echo chamber that is the modern media environment.

The dispute over the Islamic center has tripped some deep national lunacy. The unbottled anger and suspicion concerning ground zero show that many Americans haven’t flushed the trauma of 9/11 out of their systems — making them easy prey for fearmongers. NYT
This headline from ABC news is irrational: "Mosque Flap Tests Limits of US Tolerance." The media are rolling like pigs in mud. This has nothing to do with tolerance. Muslims didn't take down the twin towers. Al Qaeda did. It's not about tolerating a mosque.
Unfortunately, mainstream media has been dumbed down by all the idiocy of the internet. The nation is being led into the Fox News dungeon, where a religious war is their goal.
Frankly, I can't even bear to watch the evening news anymore. The Sunday political shows are starting to repulse me as well. Today, David Gregory perpetuated the idea that the mosque is okay but the location isn't okay. Not rational. Especially since Muslims already pray at Ground Zero.
Here is Jon Stewart on why the argument about the mosque is irrational:
